What is Earth Science?
Earth Science is the study of the Earth and the universe around us. Earth Science includes the study of Astronomy, Geology, Meteorology, Hydrology and Oceanography.
Astronomy is the study of the stars, planets and the universe. In Astronomy we will explore the connections between the formation of the universe to its present state and the role the Earth plays in this cosmic stage.
Geology is the study of rocks, minerals, structures and the history of life and the creation of the Earth. In geology we will make connections between the processes that changed life and the surface of the Earth.
Meteorology is the study of weather, climate and the atmosphere. We will study the nature of weather and the forces that affect our climate and civilization.
Hydrology is the study of rivers, lakes, streams and ground water. Through understanding the nature of the water cycle we will learn to better manage our precious fresh water resources.
Oceanography is the study of the oceans and seas. Oceanography includes both the physical and marine aspects of this field. In Oceanography, we will discover the realm which encompasses more than 70 percent of our world; for without it, life on our planet could not exist.
