Valence Electrons
Return to Chemistry Index Page
Valence electrons are electrons that are located in the outer shell of the atom.
They are responsible for bonding between atoms and creating compounds. Valence
Electrons can share equally (Non-Polar Covalent Compound), shared unequally (Polar Covalent Compound) or given and taken
in Ionic Bonding . Group/Family numbers 1,2, 13, 14, 15, 16, 17 and 18 are easy to tell, where as groups 3 through 12 transitional elements have no real pattern.
