Upwelling is where deep water cold currents drag organic debris along the bottom. When the deep water current reaches the continental rise, the the currents push the organic material up the slope until it reaches the surface. Fish and other aquatic animals are drawn to this ocean version of an all you can eat buffet. This creates and area of bountiful fishing grounds.
