Temperature Scales
Return to Scientific Investigation Index Page
Temperature is define as the average amount of kinetic energy of the molecules within a substance. As temperature drops the vibrations within the atom's nucleus slows down. Absolute zero is reach at -459.6 F. At this temperature the vibration within the atom ceases to exist and the item can no longer get colder. Three main scales use in temperature are Fahrenheit, Celsius and Kelvin.
Kelvin is written as K=C + 273.16
the units are K.
Fahrenheit is written as F= 9/5C + 32
the units are F.
Celsius is written as C= 5/9 (F-32)
the units are C.
It is easy to convert one scale to the next.
