             Radioactive Minerals

Radioactivity is a special property of some minerals. This property is usually associated with the minerals that have unstable isotopes. Minerals of this nature include: Uranium, Uraninite, thorianite and carnotite.

These isotopes disintegrate spontaneously to produce lighter elements and release energy in the process. To look at these minerals, one cannot see the energy being release and the damage that these minerals can cause to living organisms often until its to late. This energy can however be detected with a Geiger Counter which will show it these minerals contain dangerous levels of energy.
