Pyroclastic Particles

    Return to Geology Index Page

Ash, Cinders and Bombs are all called pyroclastic particles. They are made of liquid rock called lava. Ash is the smallest of all particles and cinders are only slightly larger . These particles cover the sky and the ground with volcanic soot and can be hazardous to breathe. They often help enrich the soil after an eruption with minerals for plant growth. Volcanic Bombs are often very large boulder size objects and can cause a lot of damage to whatever they hit.
