Return to Meteorology Index Page
Pressure cells are areas of the atmosphere were either high pressure exist or low pressure exist. Pressure cells are created by the heating or cooling of atmospheric air. High pressure is mark on a weather map with an "H" and is usually 1020 mb or greater. Low pressure cells are marked by a "L" on a weather map. Low pressure is 1000 mb or less.
High Pressure pushes clouds and fronts away creating areas of clear stable weather.
Low pressure draws in bad clouds and fronts. They produce unstable weather conditions often leading to various types of storms.
