Precession
Return to Astronomy Index Page
Precession is the wandering of the Celestial North Pole. This wandering is due to the fact that the Earth's axis is titled 23.5 degrees. Because of this tilt, the Earth wobbles as it spins on its axis completing a circle every 26,000 years. Polaris today is the North Star and in 14,000 AD Vega will be the North Star!
