Percent of Yield

Return to Chemistry Index Page

The Percent of yield is a comparison between the actual yield what you find in a chemical reaction verses the theoretical what you should have gotten, times one hundred.

The formula for percent of yield is:

 % Yield = Actual Yield   X 100

              Theoretical Yield

Problem Example:

During an chemical reaction you obtain 57 grams of a product when you should have gotten

90 grams of the product, what is your percent of yield?

% Yield = 57 grams   X 100 = .63333 X 100 = 63.33% Yield

                  90 grams
