A Open Universe has no beginning and has no end that it stretches out in all directions into infinity.
In a open universe their are no edges and beginning points. It has always been and shall for ever be.
A Closed Universe has a beginning and an a end. There is a starting point for time and the universe itself. There is an edge to the universe which is expanding into a void. The Closed Universe is model after the Big Bang Theory.
