Occluded Fronts

     Return to Meteorology Index Page

Occluded Fronts are created when two cold air masses trap a warm air mass and force it upward. The two cold air masses squeeze the warm air mass between them and heavy precipitation falls. Clearing occurs after the occluded front has spent its energy.

An occluded front symbol is a line that has a alternating series of bumps and triangles on the same side of the line.
