Molarity

Return to Chemistry Index Page

Molarity is the measure as the number of moles  of a solute in a liter of solution.

The equation for molarity is:

molarity (M) = amount of solute (mol)

                          liters of solution (L)

Example Problem:

What is the molarity of a solution when you have 0.750 mol of HCl in 2.00 Liters of water?

molarity (M) = 0.750 mol HCl

                             2.00 L

                    = 0.375 M HCl
