Luster

The term luster refers to the shininess of  the reflective surface of a mineral. There many types of luster. Three basic types of luster include: Dull, Shiny and Metallic.

Dull Luster: Minerals that have a dull luster have a earthy of soil like or clay like reflective surface.

      

Shiny Luster: Shiny luster minerals have a glassy almost mirror type reflective surface.

      

Metallic Luster: Minerals that have  a metal reflection to them such as gold are said to have a metallic luster.
