Density

   Return to Scientific Investigation Index Page

Density equals the amount of Mass over a Volume a object contains.

Use the following Formula to determine density. D=M/ V

Example Problem: What is the density of Metal A?

Solution: (1.) Measure the Mass of Metal A on a scale in grams.

              (2.) Measure 50 ml of water in a graduated cylinder.

              (3.) Place Metal A into the graduated cylinder.

              (4.) Record the change in Volume in ml.

              (5.) Place information into the formula and divide to get density! Make sure you use g/cm3 for your density

                    density units!

Metal A =10 grams

Graduated Cylinder change is 5ml.

D=10g/5ml

D= 2g/cm 3
