Cold Fronts

      Return to Meteorology Index Page

A cold front is where cold dense air mass meets with a warm less dense air mass and pushes the warm air mass up and away. The mixing air at the front causes precipitation usually to fall. Cool weather will follow as the cold air mass pushes the remaining warm air away. The symbol for a cold front is a line with triangles on it.

The cold front always heads down from the North.
