Blue Ridge Province

The Blue Ridge Province is the narrowest of all the provinces of Virginia. While not the smallest of the providences, the Blue Ridge is a only a few miles across in some places. The area is covered with mountainous terrain and has the highest point in the state, Mount Rogers at 5,801 ft. The Blue Ridge gets its namesake from the fact the mountains turn a purple blue as the sun sets and there is no other optical effect like it in the world. The Blue Ridge sports a number outdoor recreations such as the world famous Appalachian Trail which runs from Maine to Georgia.
