Big Bang Theory

    Return to Astronomy Index Page

The Big Bang Theory is a theory that states all the matter in the universe began as a single dot(1) with infinite heat and pressure. Under this intense heat and pressure the matter exploded (2)and was spread in all directions(3). As matter cooled atoms formed. These atoms arrange themselves into gas clouds called nebulas(4). These nebulas contracted through the force of gravity and form stars and planets(5). These stars formed larger bodies called galaxies(6). The universe continue to expand during this time. Around 40 billion years or so after the start of the Big Bang gravity will finally halt the expansion(7) and the universe will start collapsing back on itself(8,9) until reaches the single point of matter(10) and starts over!
