Alto Clouds

Return to Meteorology Index Page

Alto Clouds are middle clouds. Middle clouds range from 2,000 m to 7,000 m in altitude. There are two basic types of middle clouds, Altocumulus and Altostratus.

Altocumulus clouds are clouds that are bumpy in texture and are not thin and wispy like Cirrocumulus clouds.

Altostratus clouds are stratus clouds. Stratus clouds cover the sky. They are not thin and wispy like Cirrostratus clouds or thick grey masses like Stratus clouds. Altostratus clouds cover the sky and have a watery Sun effect.
